Ladies and gentlemen of the jury and this court, we are here today to hear evidence relating to the murder or James Roberts on Monday the 18th of November 2002. Mr Roberts (Rachel’s boyfriend) was found dead face down in the lake at Primrose Valley. It is the role of the jury to hear the evidence that is presented today to find out who is guilty of this crime. You as the jury must fairly consider the arguments for the guilt or innocence of Mrs Lisa Burton, Mr Stuart Burton (who cannot be present due to being in a coma), Miss Rachel Loftus and Mr Nigel Coates.
The defending lawyer Mr Daniel Larkin and the prosecuting lawyer Mr Jonathan Worthington have together agreed that the first witness to be called today will be Lisa Burton.
