Prayer balloons. Ask each person to write a prayer topic on a piece of paper and put it inside a balloon. Blow the balloon up and let it go so that balloons are distributed all round the room. Tell the group to stamp on a balloon and pick up the piece of paper that was inside it. Invite them to pray for the subject on the paper.

Thoughts on Clubbing talk
- Why do people go clubbing?
- What's so good about it?
- The spirituality of dancing
- What are the dangers of Clubbing?
- What are the 'values' of Clubbing?
- Hedonism?
- Why is club culture so wrapped up with drink / drugs?
- Getting drunk
- Hangovers
- Date rape
- Getting home
- Drug culture
- Fights
- Personal safety
- The financial cost of it all
- Coping with friends that are drunk. From what I hear, a lot of squabbles start when a gang of girls are out...they get drunk and say hurtful things or do things that are inconsiderate to the rest of the group
- Unwanted sexual advances
- Damaging your hearing
- Watch your drinks
- Drugs
- Stick with your friends
- Personal safety
- Watched with video again, and it raises lots of interesting points for discussion:
- one moment it shows the woman having fun, the next it cut's to her lying of her bed, depresses, recovering
- there are references to sexual advances, drugs etc.
- she eventually collapses, because, as I see it, she was given something which leads to date rape
- basically it highlights most of the issues and a subtle
- Ecclesiastes 11:9 "Young people, enjoy yourselves while you are young "
- The prodigal son - he leaves home for a life of partying
- 2 Samuel David dances like an idiot to the Lord (my paraphrase)

Great North Run
We had lots of 'fun' travelling...after only 2 minutes on the train we were told that the Scarborough - York line was closed. This was because there had been an accident on a railway crossing at Rillington...a fatality. The story is on the BBC website here. This meant that we had to get a bus from Scarborough to Hull, which made the journey 1 hour longer than expected. We did, however, get a Virgin train from York to Darlington. It's the first time I've been on a virgin train and I must say I was impressed. The return journey was much better...but the train was late...

We went to a chip shop in Brid instread. Talk was on Church, ie, what is it? We used a clip from Sister act which they seemed to like - the bit where sister Mary got the choir singing for the first time. Anyway, I'll try and post the talk ASAP.

More ideas for residential centres
1. Savio House, Bollinghton, Macclesfield, 01625 573256. This only seems to cater for large groups (minimum 19). Rate quoted was £28.65 per person for Friday and Saturday night. This is self-catering sleeping in dorms. Minimum booking is £19, therefore it would cost at least £544!
2. Edale YHA, Nether Booth, Edale, 01433 670302. This looks encouraging. It's free for us to join the YHA if we can prove who we are. Cost is £9 per person per night for under 18's. It's £12.50 for over 18's. Room combinations are 2's, 4's 6's, 8's and 12's. You have shared kitchen facilities and it has showers. It's about 40 mins from the M1 and about 1 hour from Alton Towers. Deposit of £1 per person per night, balance to pay in two weeks. They also have their own outdoor activities, but you'll have to book them for Sat and Sun if you want to do that.
3. Oakes Holiday Centre near Sheffield, 0114 2359995. These folk organise their own activities - not what we want.
4. The Briars. These are at Crich near Matlock. You have to go full board - not cooking facilities. Approx cost for Friday and Saturday night with evening meal on Friday and breakfast Saturday and Sunday was £35 per head.
5. Scout campsite directory (Select Derbyshire)
- Great Hucklow
- Buxton
- Chesterfield
- Tansley Wood - looks interesting
- Derby
6. Dovedale house is 01335 350365. It appears to be between Derby and Newcastle-under-lyme
7. Christchurch Worksop "is a modern building and has enough rooms to accomodate girls and boys separately. It also has a great kitchen area for self catering." Try Sheila Jepson on 01909 530127 in the church office.

- Mobile theology
I'm sure there's lots more!
Spanglish
- Sexual temptation - near the end of the film John and Flor are tempted to get it on, but choose not to...makes a nice change for a movie!
- In scene 6 & 7 there are issues raised about Christia's body size
- It also raises issues about success - what is it? is it a good thing?
