Which saint are you?

Joan
You are Joan of Arc! You don't really want to hurt
anyone, but if they attack your friends or your
country and no-one else will stand up to fight
them, you head into the battle. Beware though,
conviction tends to get you killed.

Responding to Challenging Behaviour

Got the copy of Responding to Challenging Behaviour by Nigel & Jo last week.
This is apparently the first in a series of booklets. I particularly like the title of one book: Young people as Prophets.
If you take out a annual subscription you get 4 books for £8.50, seems like a bargain to me...I think we will give it a go.

Get Over It

A great one for a discussion about getting dumped by a girlfriend / boyfriend. The film is basically about this guy called Burke who gets dumped by the love of him life Alison completely out of the blue. Despite the film been a bit predictable it's still amusing. If I were to use this film for a talk I'd use the first 5 and a half minutes (stop just after the opening credits). This clip tells the story of Burke and Alison, and then Alison dumps him...he's distraught....

You can find some more info on the film here

Watched Holes on Saturday night. It's basically a film about injustice and fate. Here are some bits that could be used to stimulate discussion:

Why are we here?

I just uploaded the talk we did on Friday entitled "why are we here?". It could do with some more work and a better ending...I wondered about finishing with some kind of direction arrow as a visual aid...why direction are you going in...you know the kind of thing.

Big Daddy - setting an example

I was watching Big Daddy the other day and I reckon the start of chapter 5 (11 mins 30 sec - 12 mins 40 sec) would make a good clip for a discussion on "setting a good example". In this scene Sonny (Adam Saddler) takes Julian to the park to watch the skaters. The plan is too see if any of them fall over when they go around this bad corner, anyway, to try make it more interesting Sonny puts a big stick in the way causing some guy to fall and end up in the lake. If you watch a bit more of the DVD (about 18 mins) you will see that Julian ends up decking some skaters in the same manor - he learnt by "bad example".

Heaven and Hell talk

I did our talk on Heaven and hell tonight with our Pathfinder group...we deliberately tried to keep it from getting too deep as that not appropriate for the group we did it with...it seemed to work.

Clubbing talk

I've just finished the "clubbing talk" I've been working on. We're doing it tonight...hopefully it will stimulate a good discussion about the issues involved. We plan to follow this up with some kind of self-defence session before Christmas. Check it out here.
