Talk (Having a bad day / Planes, Trains and Automobiles)
Note this is a different version of What does God
think of me?
Talk Introduction
- Who’s had a good week?
- We all have good days and bad days, and days that tear us a part…
- I've got a clip from a film called Trains, Planes and Automobiles
- This film is about two men who are trying to get home from Christmas but things keep going wrong…
- Del and Neil are having a bad day…and it’s about to get worse
- They’ve just discovered their flight is cancelled and they are trying to
get a hotel room…
- [Plains, Trains and Automobiles]
- 25 mins 0 sec They enter the bed room
- 27 mins 30 sec They are in bed
- 30 mins 30 sec Neil blows his top ‘screw you’
- 33 mins 0 sec He finishes his rant…with ‘it makes it so much more
interesting for the listener’
- 33 mins 50 sec ‘What you see is what you get’
The middle bit
- What do you think Del is thinking about?
- If you were Del, how would you feel?
- Thick / stupid / self doubt / defensive
- It seems to me that Del was feeling pretty low…
- What would you do if somebody spoke to you like Neil did?
The Bible bit
- Whether we feel happy or sad, the Bible tells us:
- God is there for us
- He cares about us, no matter what we feel or do
- We might feel like the stupidest person alive or hate who we are or what
we look like
- He still cares for us
- All we need to do, is speak to him
- The Bible says things like
- Heb 13:5
“…I will never leave you; I will never forget you…”
- 1 Sam 16:7 P258
“…God does not see the same way people see. People look at
the outside of a person, but the Lord looks at the heart”
Conclusion
- To close, we’re going to pray about how we feel
- To help us do that, I’ve got some words (download the list
here) that represent different feelings about
ourselves
- I’d like you to spend a moment, and choose a word that best describes how
you feel about yourself
- [Pray]
