What do you look for? (turn the above question around if there are
girls present)
Hal and his mate are looking for the physically 'perfect woman'
Do you think they are going to find her? Does she exist?
Why do you think that the 'perfect woman' is always thin and shapely
when other cultures say big women are more attractive?
Where do you think our idea of the physical perfect man / woman comes
from?
TV / magazines / media / Adverts etc.
Do you agree with it?
Do you think the way a person looks effects the way people treat one
other?
In what way?
Do you think that so called 'pretty' people have it easier than those
who aren't?
Has anyone ever had a go at you because of the way you look?
What kind of things do people to make themselves more attractive?
Slimming / skip meals / stop drinking (dehydration) / makeup / perfume /
plastic surgery / work out / drugs / tattoos / clothes
Would you use any of these?
Do you think these are good things?
Sometimes people can become so worried about the way they look it can take
over their lives
I know people who
Have eating problems (disorders)
Get depressed / down about the way the look
Feel so bad about themselves that they turn their pain on to
themselves...cutting etc.
That may seem silly to you, but it is very real to them
May be you know someone like that
But the Bible tells us that what ever we think about ourselves, God
accepts us as we are
Romans 15:7 P1161
"Christ accepted you, so you should accept each other"
God looks at us for what we truly are
Like in the film, the Bible says that your beauty should come from within
1 Peter 3:3-4 P1306 "it is not fancy hair, gold jewellery or fine cloths that should make you
beautiful. No, your beauty should come from within you - the beauty of a
gentle and quiet spirit that will never be destroyed and is very precious to
God"
What do you think that means?
God wants us to trust in God, rather than our clothes / the way we look
Conclusion
The Bible tells us that true beauty comes from within
Even if that is true, we all struggle at times do believe that...
So to close, I'm going to place some words on the flour (click
here for Word document)
I'd like you to pick some words...things that that you struggle with or
perhaps like about yourself...
[let them pick some word(s) and if they want to, ask them to 'share' what
they have chosen]
1 Sam 16:7 P258 "God does not see the same way people see. People look at
the outside of a person, but the Lord looks at the heart"
