What should we do with the time we have been given?
These are all important questions that many people ignore…until some bad
4 mins – Chuck is giving a pepped talk to his staff “we live or die by
27 mins – he’s got into the life board, and the screen goes black for
about 20 secs
The middle bit
If you were on that Chuck, what would you have been thinking?
The film makes the point that time is valuable…every second counts…
So we are going to spend a moment working out where we spend our time…
[hand out survey / coloured pens]
Does anything surprise you?
What did you expect?
When it comes to time, how balanced is your life?
How could you make better use of your time?
What would you cut out?
What would you do more of?
I’m going to read a story from the Bible about a man who spent all him
time saving up his valuables for the future…
Luke 12:16 – 21 ”…there was a rich man who had some land, which grew a good crop. He
thought to himself, ‘What will I do? I have no place to keep all my
crops.’ Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and
build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and other goods. Then
I can say for myself, “I have enough good things stored to last for many
years. Rest, eat, drink and enjoy life!” ‘ But God said to him, ‘Foolish
man! Tonight your life will be taken from you. So who will get those things
you have prepared for yourself?’ “This is how it will be for those who store
up things for themselves and are not rich towards God.”
If life is not about storing things up, resting, eating, drinking, and
enjoying life, what is it about?
How does God want us to spend our time?
What does it mean to be “rich towards God”?
We should spend our time on the things that really matter…
Helping people / community
Doing things that will last, even when you’ve gone…
Some people believe that God has planned out every second of our day…
Others think that we are in control of our time
There are many views in-between
What do you think?
If God does have a plan for your life, how do you discover it?
I’d like you do spend a moment and write down:
What are you good at?
What do you like / enjoy doing?
What opportunities do you have?
What can you do right now?
Would anyone like to tell us what they wrote down?
What ever our purpose is in life
The Bible tells us that God has a plan for us…
It might take us some time to figure it out
It seems to me that God would want us to do something we would
be good at
God made you this way for a reason
Think about it...would this God who Loves us want us to spend our whole
lives doing something we hate?
That doesn't mean that it will be something we want to do (right now) or
is something that we are naturally gifted at...but if we are willing, God can
change us and help us to see those things in a different light
