Tonight we are going to spend a moment thinking about the Bible…
The middle bit
What do you know about the Bible?
What bits if any have you read?
The Bible claims to be the ‘word of God’
2 Timothy 3:16 – 17
“All Scripture is given by God and is useful for teaching, for showing people
what is wrong in their lives, for correcting faults and for teaching how to
live right. Using the Scriptures, the person who serves God will be capable,
having all that is needed to do every good work”
What do you think this means?
[How do we know this is true?]
Archaeology
The old testament predicts what will happen in the new
Consistency through out
While the Bible is not a scientific book, it points to some scientific
facts
Why is the Bible important?
Its shows us how God wants us to live our lives
How we can get the most out of life…
Conclusion
During July / August we are going to be giving out some Bibles…
We’d though we’d give you a few tips on how to use it…
If you want to find a particular bible reference, like John 3:16, find
where the book is in the table in the front, then the big bold numbers are the
chapters, so find 3, then find verse 16, the small numbers.
If you're looking for stuff on a particular topic, then there's a section
at the front with passages relating to faith, relationships, etc.
If you want to read about what Jesus did, there are 4 versions of that,
called the gospels. They're Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and they're at the
start of the New Testament.
If you want to read about the creation, the flood, etc, then you want to
be in Genesis, at the start of the bible.
The book after Genesis, named Exodus, is about Moses leading the
Israelites out of Egypt.
There's another section at the front here too, with where you can find
certain well known stories from the bible.
